In the midst of the hot streets of New York, two gangs—the white Jets and the Latino Sharks—fight for power. Their hatred boils over, but the love between Tony and Maria, the sister of the Sharks' leader, burns amidst the flames of hostility. They plan an escape, but a brutal fight under the freeway changes everything. When Tony tries to stop the violence, a bloody tragedy is inevitable.
