In the 1930s, Roger Schumann, a former World War I flying ace, is now caught up in a deadly airplane acrobatic circus. His family lives in misery while he is obsessed with airplanes, his only true love. The presence of Burke Devlin, a journalist who wants to write a "how are you" story about the hero, actually reveals the bitterness of Schumann's life.
