In medieval Japan, a benevolent governor is exiled, tearing his family apart. Her children, Zushio and Anju, are sold into slavery and suffer under the rule of Sansho, a cruel executioner. However, a mother's promise and her children's determination will test the limits of humanity. Will they meet again, or will fate separate them forever?
